When phones, ipads, ipods and Macs get left behind because they are unrepairable, customers are welcome to collect or leave them behind.

More than half do get left because there’s no value in them to the customer.

There may be a little value in convenience to us - bearing in mind that in an iPad or iPhone the most valuable item is the logic board and if that is good then it will be repairable - but in terms of parts that are salvageable it is almost zero.

In circumstances where items have been left behind for four months or more because they aren’t economic or possible to repair we will assume that the item is no longer wanted and can strip it, as and when the need arises, for spares to help other people.

There may be the odd occasion where something comes in that needs major repairs, such as a badly damaged case, where it is possible to take out the the working guts of the machine and transplant them into a leftover, in which case the beneficiary will not be charged anything like the cost of buying new parts, usually only for the time it takes to do the job. It’s our version of “paying it forward”.

So, if you left something with us for a decent length of time then please don’t expect it to be intact when you finally get around to collecting it - and we won’t charge you for storing it!
